JUSTICE Secretary Kenny MacAskill has offered to introduce amendments to controversial plans to change the legal aid system.

In a meeting with members of the Law Society of Scotland he discussed increasing the threshold for people who would be required to pay a financial contribution towards their legal aid.

Lawyers have held protests in the last week over proposals which would see people with a disposal income of £68 a week or more having to make a financial contribution towards criminal legal aid.
