MP hits out at cuts to aid

East Lothian Labour MP Fiona O’Donnell has spoken out against “cruel and unnecessary” cuts to compensation for victims of violent crime.

The Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme supports more than 30,000 injured victims each year with relatively small payments which help to make up for lost pay they are off work due to their injuries.

But UK Government proposals would mean that compensation would no longer be available to victims who sustain certain injuries.
