A second major power cut of the day in Edinburgh has left thousands across multiple postcodes in the dark.

The power outage hit residents in areas including Leith, Portobello, Liberton and Dalkeith at around 8pm.

In a tweet, @SPEnergyNetwork said: “We are aware of a #POWERCUT in #EH6 #EH7 #EH15 #EH16 #EH22 #EDINBURGH.

“Our engineers are working to restore supplies. Sorry for the inconvenience.”

Scottish Power Energy Networks confirmed that power was restored at 9.32pm.

The outage came just hours after another power cut which plunged the west of the Capital into chaos during rush hour.

Residents across several postcodes reported a loss of power at around 4.45pm.

The power cut caused delays at Edinburgh Airport and temporarily knocking out the city’s tram services.

At 5.45pm Edinburgh Trams announced that trams were back to running their full route.

Power was fully restored to the affected postcode areas at 6.55pm.
