Praise for top city cop

THE Edinburgh councillor responsible for community safety has paid tribute to Edinburgh’s first female police chief inspector, who died at the end of August.

Janet “Jinty” Kerr died at the age of 63 after a five-year fight against cancer.

Councillor Paul Edie, the city’s community safety leader, said: “Jinty was a remarkable lady who was the first female chief inspector in Edinburgh. She also headed up Lothian and Borders drug squad for a while. It was in the role that I first met her.”
