A PRANKSTER who clambered up the Scott Monument and brought Princes Street to a standstill has been sent to prison for two months.

Michal Giez, 33, climbed over a safety rail and straddled a gargoyle close to the top of the 200-foot landmark on June 5.

He was eventually talked down by police after they cordoned off the main shopping thoroughfare.

His stunt caused traffic chaos in the middle of the afternoon with trams from Edinburgh Airport only travelling as far as the West End.

Giez was sentenced after pleading guilty to breach of the peace at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
