Proclaimers and Welsh protest ‘art tax’

The Proclaimers and Irvine Welsh have taken part in a day of protests against changes to licensing laws branded a “tax on art”.

Changes to the Public Entertainment Licence law, which will see temporary free exhibitions or public shows require a licence costing between £124 and £7500, came into effect yesterday, prompting demos in St Andrew Square and Cockburn Street.

Mr Welsh said: “It’s a brilliant idea if the intention is to destroy grassroots culture in Scotland.”
