Pub boosts Hearts coffers

REGULARS at a city pub have raised a whopping £3500 for Hearts in a series of moneyspinning antics – including painting the bar maroon.

Scores turned out at The Polwarth Tavern to snap up auction items and raffle prizes in aid of the struggling Gorgie club. An undercoat has been added onto the exterior of the pub which is expected to be painted maroon by later today.
It is understood one generous local shelled out £700 for prizes which included a signed Rudi Skacel shirt and a round of golf at Archerfield in North Berwick.

Among the surprises was the arrival of the Scottish Cup, which fans could pay a nominal fee to pose for a picture alongside. More than £500 was raised through the photography fundraiser.
