Pupil stirs things up for cancer funds

Stewart Muir, 17, from Whitburn, West Lothian, has raised a total of £11,354 over the last two years for the charity that supported his late grand- father, Andy Muir, who died from prostate cancer in 2008.

With the help of friends Stephen Oakes, 17, and Jonny Martin, 16, Stewart raised the money from a combination of events, including sponsored walks and coffee mornings. The latest fundraiser – a World’s Biggest Coffee Morning event – took place at Whitburn Academy last week and raised £1,188.

Despite their joy at raising so much money for the charity, last week’s event was tinged with a little sadness for the three teenagers, who are all pupils at Whitburn Academy.

“Because we’re in sixth year, this will be our last coffee morning at the school,” said Stewart.
