BUDDING cyclists from Ratho Primary School were among the first people to try out an upgraded path along the Union Canal.

The towpath, which has undergone a £108,000 transformation, was officially opened by the council’s canal champion Councillor Gordon Munro.

The new route is part of a wider programme of investment, which has seen £1 million ploughed into improving the towpath between Edinburgh Quay, Hermiston and the city outskirts.
