Quarry blaze put out

FIREFIGHTERS have confirmed that a blaze at a quarry in west Edinburgh has been put out.

Locals said the fire in Craigpark Quarry in Ratho – which broke out at 6am on Sunday – was still smouldering and depositing soot in the air.

But crews confirmed the fire has been completely extinguished and said any activity was due to steam caused by the application of large quantities of water at the site.

Health officials have also confirmed that soot deposits created by the fire pose no significant health risk to the public.
