Queen’s Hall future as top venue put in doubt

Have your say

THE future of the Queen’s Hall as a leading concert venue has been thrown into doubt after it was criticised in a major report ordered by Creative Scotland.

The venue, which has been staging shows since 1979, was described as unsuitable and inflexible for major events, with Creative Scotland saying Edinburgh needed a brand new medium-sized venue to avoid lagging behind Glasgow.

The criticism is a damning blow to the venue’s hopes of securing Creative Scotland funding for a planned £8.5 million revamp, and Queen’s Hall chief executive Adrian Harris said the findings were “confusing”, “contradictory” and “inaccurate”, and said calls for a new venue were being led by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.
