Rankin records guide to get visitors clued up on mines

The author Ian Rankin has recorded an audio guide for the National Mining Museum in Midlothian.

The best-selling author of the Rebus novels, who lives in Edinburgh, will tell the history of the attraction to visitors at the Newtongrange site. An audio visual guide takes visitors in a journey through the Lady Victoria Colliery and Scotland’s mining heritage.

Visitor services manager Robin Robertson said: “Ian comes from a mining background in Fife and he’s very interested in history.”

The guide will be available on a device similar to a smartphone at the of launch the new facility in December.

Mr Rankin is currently working on his second book in a new series focusing on internal affairs at Lothian and Borders Police.
