Rapist faces jail sentence

An “evil” babysitter who raped two young sisters 30 years ago has been warned he faces a jail sentence.

James Diamond had sex with the children at their then family home in a West Lothian village.

One victim told the High Court in Edinburgh that she tried to commit suicide in the wake of the abuse.

The woman, now aged 44, recalled that, when she was aged 10 or 11, she was told by Diamond to lie on her bedroom floor and he then had sex with her. Diamond, 46, of Kennoway, in Fife, had denied raping the woman and her younger sister, now 43, but was convicted by a majority.

Judge Lord Uist agreed to continue Diamond’s bail but warned him he should presume he would be losing his liberty.

Diamond was placed on the sex offenders’ register.
