Record figures see council launch foster carer appeal

A FOSTER carer recruitment drive has been launched as the number of children in care across Scotland hit its highest figure since 1981.

Edinburgh council is looking for 30 recruits this year.

Foster carers are needed to provide children with safe homes while they are unable to live with their own families.

The local authority is appealing to those who can provide a stable environment and help young people improve their confidence.

For those thinking of volunteering, a series of drop-in events is being held this month and next, with details of the events on the council’s website.

Education leader Marilyne MacLaren said: “Fostering is a hugely rewarding and really important job as it benefits some of the most vulnerable children in our society, helping them build a bright and confident future.

“You may be able to help make a real difference to the life of a child in your area.”
