work has started on preparing a new economic recovery plan for Midlothian, designed to boost the local economy and drive forward sustainable economic development.

Central themes for the ERP will include infrastructure investment in transportation, schools, housing and regeneration projects together with tackling youth unemployment, apprenticeships and skills development. Renewable energy, rural development and the digital economy will also be prioritised.

Councillor Jim Bryant, Cabinet Member for Economic Development, said: “It is intended that the finalised draft Economic Recovery Plan will be submitted to council for approval early next year.”
