Residents flee from stair fire

Residents were evacuated from a tenement in Muirhouse Grove last night after a suspicious blaze ripped through a ground-floor property.

A fire investigation unit was called out to the scene after reports that the front door of the property had been forced open before the fire started.

It is understood the fire started at 8.20pm last night, and residents of the upper floors were evacuated by firefighters amid concerns that heavy smoke was clogging the stairwell.

No-one was injured, and it is understood the occupant of the property may have been in hospital at the time.

Damage was restricted to the living room of the property.
