Richie Ramsay will give '˜harsh but fair' missed cut assessment

The Edinburgh-based player failed to make it to the weekend at Royal Troon after rounds of 73 and 74 for a five-over-par total.

“It was easily the toughest side of the draw,” he bemoaned after playing his second round in particular in wet and windy conditions.

“We were playing into the wind on the front and you were looking for it to be easier on the back nine,  but the wind turned around.”

It was at its strongest as Ramsay ran up a double-bogey at the 11th – the toughest hole on the course – then also dropped a shot at the next. “I hit a 5-iron on 12 which went nowhere. I had 173 to the pin and barely got 150 out of it,” he added in illustrating how tough the conditions became.

The three-time European Tour winner is now taking a break before returning for the Paul Lawrie Match Play at Archerfield Links early next month.

“It is going to be difficult to analyse where I went wrong but there were external factors this week,” he said in reference to the draw as well as the fact he was unable to play a practice round due to illness.

“You have to be harsh but fair on yourself, which is sometimes difficult to do.”
