Road junction alterations to be rolled out

A SERIES of improvements are planned for four junctions in the Capital.

The £180,000 programme of work will see the layout of the junction of Argyle Place and Melville Drive at the Meadows being improved for the benefit of pedestrians and cyclists, while similar work will also take place at the junction of Whitehouse Loan and Grange Loan.

The two sets of works include replacing the existing kerbs, resurfacing the road and pavement, installing new traffic islands, and the installation of new bollards and gullies.

Two roadway pedestrian islands, or refuge islands, will also be created at separate sites in the city.

One of the islands will be installed in Craiglockhart Avenue, while the other will be installed in Braid Hills Road, near the Braid Hills Golf Course.

The city council has begun the hunt for a civil engineering contractor to carry out the work and has formally advertised the contract, which is expected to be worth £180,000.

A contract is expected to be awarded before the end of December.
