Robber armed with broken bottle flees shop with cash

AN armed robber held up a terrified shop assistant with a broken bottle before escaping with a three-figure sum of cash.

The robber struck at around 9pm on Thursday at Blockbusters in Great Junction Street in Leith.

The suspect threatened a woman working alone in the store with the broken bottle before demanding money.

The suspect is described as white, in his 30s, around 6ft tall with a large build. He was wearing a black beanie-hat, black baggy sports jacket and blue jeans, and spoke with a local accent.

A police spokesman said: “This was a very frightening experience for the store assistant and we are keen to hear from anyone who can help us identify this man.

“Anyone who was on Great Junction Street at around 9pm on Thursday and saw anything suspicious is asked to contact police immediately.”
