Rogue landlords protest gets under way

DOZENS of people have attended a meeting geared to launching a campaign against rogue landlords.

Fifty members of the public were joined by politicians and community leaders amid concerns the council was not doing enough to crack down on problem landlords.

The Edinburgh Private Tenants Action Group pointed to figures suggesting no-one has ever been struck off the landlord register in the Capital, despite numerous offences going through court.

However, the council dismisses this, saying it has done more than enough to ensure the fair treatment of tenants.

A number of speakers addressed the meeting at Old St Paul’s Church in the Old Town.

The meeting heard from tenants who had experienced problems, from nuisance neighbours to flats which were not fit for habitation.

The Evening News revealed last month how the council was investigating 400 landlords over their conduct in letting their properties. In addition, nearly 450 house in multiple occupation licences had been revoked.
