Scotland rugby star Max Evans cleared of nightclub assualt

Scotland rugby internationalist Max Evans has been cleared of assaulting a man in an Edinburgh nightclub.

The former Glasgow Warriors player was accused of assaulting Alasdair McCaig to his severe injury and permanent impairment in Edinburgh last year.

The incident was said to have taken place in the Lulu nightclub on 1 August 2010.

Evans, 28, denied the charge and said he had acted in self-defence after being punched by the 29-year-old.

A jury took less than an hour to return a verdict of not guilty after a five-day trial at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.
