Seabird Centre staff set sail on swashbuckling Pirate Weekend

STAFF at the Scottish Seabird Centre will be shivering some timbers as they host their famous Pirate Weekend.

Taking inspiration from Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island, staff were dressed head to toe in pirate gear as they prepared for the centre to be taken over by buccaneers for some swashbuckling fun.

All of the activities – including treasure map-making, giant pirate battleships and canon fighting – will be included in the entry price to the Discovery Centre and there will be pieces of eight for the best-dressed captains and first mates.

Started in 2008 Pirate Weekend has proved a big success for the Scottish Seabird Centre with pirates of all ages dressing to impress and enjoying the activities throughout the day.

Tom Brock OBE, chief executive of the attraction, said: “Pirate Weekend promises to be great fun.

“We are also right in the middle of seal season so visitors will be able to use our live interactive cameras to zoom in for amazing pictures of newly born seal pups.

“This has been our biggest ever year at the Seabird Centre for events, activities and exhibitions.”
