Second fire at former dance hall

A FIRE has broken out at a former dance hall in Edinburgh for the second time in less than a month.

The blaze hit the building at Fountainbridge, which also used to house Mecca Bingo, yesterday afternoon.

A passer-by alerted the fire service after noticing smoke coming from the building at around 3pm. Four firefighters, who gained access to the building using bolt cutters, tackled the flames.

Earlier this month, crews tackled a series of small fires that broke out in the building. The property was once home to the well-known Palais de Danse hall.

Meanwhile, a woman had to be cut free following a two-car accident in Wester Hailes yesterday. The accident took place at Stevenson Drive at around 12.35pm.

The woman, aged around 44, was taken to hospital, but a police spokesman said there were no serious injuries.
