Security questions over rapist’s hostel

QUESTIONS about security levels at the New Town hostel where Da Vinci Code rapist Robert Greens is being housed are to be put to council chiefs, after it was revealed his daytime supervision had been axed.

The 34-year-old was moved to the council facility, used to house sex offenders released from prison, after protests led to him being transferred from accommodation in Midlothian.

The end of round-the-clock supervision on Greens raised fears in the community and sparked the threat of protests.

City Centre SNP councillor Alasdair Rankin said he would contact council chiefs to determine the levels of monitoring which would be available.

With Greens now unsupervised during the day, Cllr Rankin added that he was keen to meet with residents to discuss their concerns.

One community leader said: “There are a number of young girls who stay nearby and there’s also families with children. Greens’ arrival has created a great deal of tension.”

After being released from prison in January, Greens had two social workers living with him 24 hours a day to ensure someone was “always awake” to monitor him. Under the new supervision structure, Greens is under curfew from 8pm to 8am and wears an electronic tag.
