A KNIFE-WIELDING robber made off with a four-figure sum of cash after holding up terrified staff at a Lothian newsagent.

The armed thug threatened two female members of staff at RS McColl in West Main Street, Armadale, West Lothian.

The suspect forced them to empty the safe before fleeing the store at around 9.35pm on Sunday.

Following the robbery, the suspect fled across West Main Street and down a lane leading to Hailstones Crescent.

He is described as white, in his 30s, 5ft 8in to 6ft tall, medium build, with a local accent. He wore a black jumper, tracksuit trousers, and his face was covered with a blue woollen hat and striped scarf.

A police spokesman said: “Thankfully the two women weren’t injured during the incident, nonetheless they were left shaken as a result of the ordeal.

“We want anyone who was in the area, who either saw the suspect entering or leaving the premises, or noticed anyone acting suspiciously, to contact police.”
