Sheltered housing tenants mark 20th anniversary

Residents of St Colm’s Sheltered Housing in Edinburgh marked the development’s 20th birthday with a party.

Jean Summers, 87, and her late husband, John, were among the first residents of the St Colm’s complex which is run by Dunedin Canmore Housing Association, and she remembered the official opening on September 12, 1991 conducted by the Duke of Gloucester.

Jean said: “When I first came in here I thought it was like a palace. I like where I stay, it is very central and handy for the shops. I like to get out and about but I’m very happy in my home.”

The Dalry Road complex has 24 tenants. Jeanette Quipp, Senior Sheltered Housing Manager, Dunedin Canmore Housing Association, said: “I had the pleasure of working in St Colms for a number of years and over the years met some lovely people. Visitors to the scheme commented on the friendliness of the tenants and the nice welcome they received.”
