Ships that pass in the daylight

The crew of Edinburgh Inspiring Capital had an unexpected rendezvous with HMS Edinburgh overnight near the world’s most remote settlement in the Tristan da Cunha group of islands.

The team was paid a visit by the Type 42 Destroyer, currently patrolling the South Atlantic.

The boats previously met up in Portsmouth ahead of the start of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. On Thursday morning, HMS Edinburgh appeared without warning and deployed a Zodiac rib to exchange gifts.

Commander Paul Russell gave skipper Gordon Reid and his team a signal flag ‘Mike’, and accepted a box of chocolate and an Edinburgh Inspiring Capital cap on behalf of his crew.
