SHOPPERS were evacuated from a busy city centre store on Saturday amid claims of a bomb scare.

Topshop on Princes Street was sealed off for more than an hour after a “suspicious communication” was intercepted.

Police Scotland declined to reveal any details what had been found and would not comment on whether a direct threat had been made.

But shoppers writing on social media claimed there had been a “bomb scare”.

A police spokeswoman said: “Police in Edinburgh were called to an address on Princes Street at around 2pm following reports of a suspicious communication.

“The premises were evacuated and searched by officers but there was found to be no danger to staff or to the public and inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.”

The shop was reopened at 3.10pm on Saturday.

Topshop was unavailable for comment.
