Singer up for top prize at Trad awards

A CITY singer has been nominated for a top prize at this year’s Scots Trad Music Awards.

Christine Kydd, who performed in the acclaimed act Chantan, has been shortlisted in the Singer of the Year 
category.

Music tutor Scott Murray, from the Capital, also features among the nominations, having been put forward for Singer of the Year and Music Tutor of Year.

Winners will be announced during a ceremony in Fort William next month.

Event founder and promoter Simon Thoumire said: “Traditional music still thrives in Scotland.

“From festivals and events to bands, pipers, singers and even record labels, there are thousands of people around the country that continue to make the scene grow.

“I’m delighted that over the past ten years we’ve been able to give something back, but really I should be thanking all our talented nominees, for without them, the awards would be nothing. We’re going to mark our milestone with a brilliant event.”

Previous ceremonies have seen performances by Scottish traditional musicians and bands including Barbara Dickson, Peatbog Faeries, Red Hot Chilli Pipers and Karine 
Polwart.
