A SKETCH of famous music hall performer Sir Harry Lauder is set to fetch up to £20,000 at an art sale in the Capital next week.
The drawing, The Star and Beauty Chorus – which depicts Sir Harry in mid-song and in trademark Highland regalia standing in front of the kilt-clad girls of the chorus line – dates from 1915 and is by the Scottish Colourist Francis Cadell.
It is to be sold at Bonhams’ Scottish Art sale on Thursday, December 4.
Sir Harry, left, was knighted in 1919 for his war-time fundraising efforts and his role in boosting troops’ morale with his famous travelling concerts. His only son was killed in France in 1916.
Cadell was the only one of the four Colourist painters to serve in the war, seeing action on the Western Front.
