Solicitors’ strike moves step closer

STRIKE action by defence solicitors has moved a step closer, the Edinburgh Bar Association has warned, after the Justice Committee rejected amendments to a controversial bill that will see Scotland’s poor become liable for criminal legal aid contributions.

Austin Lafferty, president of the Law Society of Scotland, joined Cameron Tait, president of the EBA, and more than 100 solicitors as they staged a peaceful protest outside Holyrood yesterday.
