A MAN who told his dad he was delivering “a message from God” as he tried to kill him is to be held at the Carstairs psychiatric hospital.
Denis Gallen, 39, subjected the pensioner to a horrific ordeal before putting a pillow over his face and repeatedly stabbing him.
The victim, Denis Gallen senior, 72, made 999 calls and during one his son could be heard shouting: “I’m going to kill you dad.”
The son showed his father a picture of his deceased wife and told him: “You’re joining her today.”
When police arrived, Gallen junior struggled violently with officers and when asked to calm down because there were children in the vicinity told them: “I’ll go over to the school and kill all the kids.”
Gallen junior was charged with attempting to murder his father following the ordeal on December 13 last year at the house they lived in at Loganlea Drive.
He earlier pleaded not guilty at the High Court in Edinburgh, lodging a special defence that he was suffering a mental disorder, which the Crown accepted.
