NHS Lothian has appointed design teams for the new £250 million Sick Kids hospital, while work is continuing to attempt to revive the ambitious plans for the Shawfair area.

Projects expected to be completed by 2016 include the Borders railway and an extension of the city’s park-and-ride offering in the area.

Longer-term projects, unlikely to begin before 2016, include a new high school for Craigmillar.
