Star films Mad Butler’s story
ACTOR Malcolm McDowell is about to start filming in East Lothian for a new big-screen thriller about the life of “Mad Butler” Archibald Hall who murdered five people in a string of bizarre crimes across Britain.
The Monster Butler, which is due to be shot over several weeks at Gosford House in Longniddry, is the latest in a string of films and TV productions to be made in and around Edinburgh.
It will tell the story of Glasgow-born Hall who graduated from a life of petty crime to mixing with the aristocracy and showbiz figures before becoming a serial killer. His victims included former Labour minister Walter Scott-Elliott and his wife Dorothy, as well as his own brother Donald.
Hall was jailed for life in 1978 and died behind bars in 2002.
