Store faces space cut

A CONVENIENCE store is set to be ordered to stop trading from space into which it expanded.

A retrospective application is due to be discussed by councillors on Wednesday for the store at 43 Lasswade Road.

An enforcement investigation was lodged in March after complaints about noise in one subdivision of the building that was unauthorised.

Planning officials then brought the retrospective planning application for an addition of 33 square metres to the development management sub-committee. Now they have recommended that councillors reject the application on the grounds that the extra space “would have an adverse impact on the vitality and viability of nearby shopping centres”.

The operator will now be asked to reduce the amount of space it utilises, if the officials’ recommendations are backed.
