Stunt team teaches pupils the way to safe cycling

CHILDREN from two primary schools have received cycling lessons from some of the Capital’s top stunt bikers.

Pupils from Craigour Park and Gilmerton primaries yesterday participated in safe cycling skill sessions provided by members of The Riders stunt biking team.

The event took place to celebrate Cycling Scotland’s Give Me Cycle Space campaign, which is running in tandem with Sustrans’ I Bike initiative and aims to encourage more children to cycle to school.

The campaign was launched after research showed that, although more than 30 per cent of children in Scotland say they want to cycle to school, only around three per cent do.

Sustrans cycling officer Lynn Stocks said: “The sessions were basically a big thank you to all the people, children included, who have been involved in the campaign. It was about inspiring the children – enthusing them and teaching them to really love their bikes.”
