Takeaway blaze police open to link theories

DETECTIVES investigating a suspicious blaze that tore through an Indian takeaway have not ruled out a link to a spate of other fires in West Lothian.

Madras Cottage in Whitburn was gutted after a fire broke out around 4am yesterday morning, which needed 30 firefighters to bring it under control and closed many of the town’s roads.

Police sources said although they have not uncovered any evidence linking the blaze to previous fires, they have not ruled out a connection.

A kebab shop was destroyed in a suspicious fire in July – just days before it was due to open for the second time.

The Four In One takeaway, in West Main Street, had been refurbished following another blaze seven months earlier when it was destroyed, causing more than £100,000 worth of damage.

A month prior to that, firefighters tackled a major fire at the Whitburn Miners’ Welfare Club, which also broke out in the early hours.

A police spokesman said: “We want to speak to anyone who was in East Main Street who noticed any suspicious activity.”
