A TEENAGER is today fighting for his life after he was found hanging in his home in what police say appears to be a freak accident.
The 14-year-old boy was found by members of his family at the house in Gilmerton.
Four police cars and a rapid response ambulance rushed to the address in The Murrays after receiving an emergency call soon after 1pm yesterday.
The boy was rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where his condition was described as critical.
A neighbour described hearing a woman’s desperate shouts before the emergency services arrived.
The resident said: “All of a sudden I could hear a woman screaming. I couldn’t make out what she was shouting, but she was in the street and started banging on a neighbour’s door.
“A few minutes later the ambulance turned up at the house along with the cops.
“The medics carried the boy out on a stretcher and the cops stayed there for most of the day.”
Police are now trying to piece together what happened but say there are no suspicious circumstances.
A police source said that officers had not been able to speak to the boy to get an account of the incident, but it appeared to have been an accident.
