Teen stages bid to win song contest

A TEENAGE singer from Leith is on the verge of stardom after reaching the final of a UK-wide competition.

Daniel Crawford, 14, wowed judges at the National Open Mic UK show with a version of the Wanted’s Lose My Mind.

Now he hopes to do the same at the area finals in Manchester on December 4, with the dream of reaching the ultimate final in London at the beginning of 2012.

The Leith Academy pupil said his deputy head teacher had encouraged him to take his singing further, and applied to this contest, entered by thousands of other hopefuls across the country.

His mother Katie added: “Daniel sings no matter where he is.

“I’m sure he will overcome any nerves he has on the day.

“I will probably be more nervous than him.”
