Teen’s bogus caller charges

A TEENAGER has been arrested and charged with bogus caller offences after an elderly woman was tricked into paying a four-figure sum for roofing work.

The 18-year-old was detained in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, following a joint operation by Lothian and Borders Police and Strathclyde Police.

The swoop followed a bogus caller incident in Currievale Park, Currie, on January 30, when a 74-year-old woman was approached by two men who persuaded her to hand over cash for roofing. A similar, but unsuccessful, attempt to defraud a 73-year-old woman was made in Greenbank Drive, Greenbank, the same day.

The teenager appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court in connection with both offences on Wednesday and was remanded in custody.
