HOMEOWNERS are also reaping the financial benefits of the world’s eyes being on East Lothian, with one North Berwick couple moving into their garage for the duration of the tournament.
Richard and Jo Yates had planned to rent out their two spare rooms, but decided to also offer up their own bedroom after being inundated with calls. Another couple reportedly moved into their attic so they could rent out their home.
All hotels and B&Bs in the surrounding area are also fully booked – but some residents of Gullane have reportedly been unable to rent their rooms.
Alastair McIntosh, Chairman of Gullane Community Council, said: “When the Open was last here everything got snapped up, but I know of a lot of people who were not able to find anyone to rent their spare rooms. It’s odd.”
