A FRUIT whose smell has been described as a combination of rotten onions, gym socks and almonds is among the exotic arrivals from south-east Asia being unveiled at the Royal Botanic Gardens.

The durian – renowned as the world’s smelliest fruit – was one of several foreign plants being exhibited at the launch of the city attraction’s Malaysian Glasshouse Trail.

Helping to launch the trail was Malaysian tourism minister Dato’ Sri Dr. Ng Yen Yen alongside Professor Stephen Blackmore who enjoyed a closer look at the durian fruit.
