FIRECREWS led three people to safety from a Mayfield stairwell following a fireraising attack.
The “deliberate” fire sparked in the common stair case of a three-storey building on Chester Square at 9.30pm on Friday.
Three people were given oxygen while a 30-year-old man received treatment for minor cuts sustained trying to extinguish the fire.
The fire service is still investigating what might have caused the fire.
A fire service spokesperson said: “This highlights the problem of leaving combustible materials in common stairwells.”
