A HEPATITIS C sufferer who was arrested for beating his girlfriend has been jailed after he admitted biting a police officer.
Kevin Flockhart, 41, also spat at another officer despite knowing he could pass on the contagious disease.
The officer who was bitten suffered a small wound to his leg, but did not suffer any further complications.
Flockhart, of North Berwick, East Lothian, was seen by passing motorists attacking partner Angela Ryan beside a bus stop in Prestonpans on June 29.
After police arrived he began to struggle violently with them before he was taken to nearby Dalkeith police station.
Flockhart pleaded guilty to three assault charges and one of resisting arrest when he appeared at Haddington Sheriff Court. He also admitted committing the offences while on bail.
He was sentenced to 12 months and two weeks in prison.
