POLICE chiefs have welcomed a six year sentence given to a thug who stabbed a man in the heart for trying to help a young mum.
Jared Kay was sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh on Thursday following the knife attack at a home in Main Street in Fauldhouse, West Lothian on April 10.
The 21-year-old had previously pled guilty to the assault on 30-year-old David Scott, who suffered numerous puncture wounds to his chest.
Detective Inspector Phil Gachagan said: “The attacks Jared Kay subjected his victims to were both calculated and severe and resulted in them sustaining serious injuries from which they may never fully recover.
“Thankfully, officers arrived quickly on the scene and restrained Kay from inflicting fatal injury to Mr Scott, who I hope now is able to move on with his life.”
