Singh, 32, appeared from custody at Haddington Sheriff Court after being sentenced to ten months for a domestic assault charge at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on April 17.

Sheriff Graeme Warner described Singh’s criminal record as “terrible” and ordered him to serve a 12-month prison sentence which will begin after he completes his current term.

Fiscal depute Alison Innes told the court Singh erupted in violence during a drinking session at a house in Musselburgh, East Lothian, on May 25, 2011.

She said: “Jamie Hay [the victim], whose house it was, asked him to leave, but the accused was having none of it.

“He [Singh] then seized hold of him, lifted him up and threw him against a wooden coffee table. He ended up striking his head against the fireplace.”
