Toddler fights for life after window plunge

A THREE-year-old boy was being treated for severe head injuries last night after falling 15 feet from a window.

Police last night closed off the building in King’s Road, Portobello, where the accident happened and confirmed they were investigating the incident.

It is believed the youngster - who has a twin brother - was playing in his room just before falling from the window. He was rushed to the Sick Kids hospital just after 6.30pm on Thursday, and was understood to be in a critical condition last night.

Forensic teams were at the scene last night, while a uniformed police officer was at the door to the flat.

An area around the basement where the boy is thought to have fallen was surrounded with police tape.

A police spokeswoman said: “Inquiries are ongoing and anyone who can assist officers is asked to contact police.”

A neighbour, who asked not to be identified, said: “The boys are twins, two lively boys. It must have been awful for people in the basement flat. I noticed their blinds were closed.

“When I saw the police I thought, I’m sure one of those boys has slipped out of the window. It’s really shocking. The family have not been here long.”

The street was the scene of a tragedy in 2004, when nine-year-old Dale Jones died when he fell more than 40 feet in a tenement communal stair.

Anyone with information can call police on 0131-311 3131.
