Topless fury of road rage hulk

POLICE are hunting a skinhead road rage thug who chased a driver for 20 minutes before ripping off his shirt and smashing up his victims’ car.

The driver of the Vauxhall Astra apparently became enraged after being overtaken by a Jaguar XFS on the A7066 near Bathgate and tailed him “aggressively” for several miles.

The frightened driver attempted to lose his pursuer on at least one roundabout before trying to drive to the town’s police station.

The chase ended when the driver of the £45,000 Jaguar had to stop at traffic lights outside Bathgate Academy.

His well-built assailant jumped from his silver Astra and bizarrely ripped off his T-shirt, before tearing the wing mirror from the Jaguar, bending the windscreen wipers and kicking the driver’s door, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.

The attacker tried to pull the door of the Jaguar open but its occupant had locked the car. The attacker then sped off east along Edinburgh Road following the incident at around 5pm on Wednesday.

Sergeant Keith Bendall, from Bathgate Police Station, told the Evening News that the incident appeared to have been sparked by the Jaguar overtaking the Astra on a dual carriageway.

He said: “This was a prolonged incident and fairly unusual. This incident happened over the course of around 15 to 20 minutes, culminating in damage when the vehicle stopped at the traffic lights.”

He went on: “The driver of the Jaguar overtaking the Astra on the A7066 seems to be the only motivation in this.”

Sergeant Bendall said the driver of the Jaguar, who is in his early 40s, attempted to get away from the Astra.

He said: “He did try some evasive manoeuvres, going round the roundabout [at Wester Inch] a couple of times in the hope the guy would stop but he kept following him.

“I don’t understand why someone would get so upset with someone overtaking them.”

Police said the time and nature of the incident meant it was likely to have been noticed by passers-by and have appealed for anyone with information to get in touch on 0131-311 3131 or 0800-555 111.

The suspect is white, in his early to mid-20s, 5ft 8ins tall with a stocky build and a skinhead. He was wearing a grey T-shirt and a pair of jeans.
