Disruption to Edinburgh rail commuters as overhead wire comes down at Haymarket station

It is thought the high winds are to blame.

Rail commuters heading in and out of Edinburgh this evening have been delays after an overhead electric wire came down at Haymarket train station.

Network Rail has tweeted that engineers are currently on site working to fix the problem at platform one.

Their tweet said: "Until this is repaired, no trains will be able to use the platform."

One of their latest tweets says that more work needs done on the damaged wire. It reads: "Further work on the damaged wire is required, I'm afraid. Our engineers are evaluating their options to complete this as quickly and safely as possible."

It is thought the high winds are to blame for the wiring coming down.

ScotRail tweeted this evening that there is congestion around the station as trains that would normally use platform one need to cross to platform three.

Rail passengers have been advised that valid rail tickets will be accepted on replacement First Buses out to Falkirk.

Valid rail tickets and Smartcards can be used on these bus routes between Glasgow, Cumbernauld and Falkirk: X3, 8, 38, 41, 60 and 60A.

Services from Edinburgh-Milngavie/Helensburgh have been reduced to half-hourly at the moment.

You can also use valid rail tickets and Smartcards on these bus services too: Lothian Buses: Edinburgh - Gorebridge Borders Buses: Edinburgh - Galashiels on route X95 & Galashiels - Tweedbank on route X62

Delays to Edinburgh-bound services are also making both trains and crews late for their next services.

A ScotRail spokes said: “We’re sorry to our customers who have experienced disruption to their journey today. Engineers are working as quickly as possible to get services back to normal.

"Anyone delayed 30 minutes or more can claim money back through the Delay Repay Guarantee on our website or mobile app.”
