Family tribute to crash driver Stephen Stewart

The family of a driver who died after crashing into a motorway barrier have described him as a kind man 'with a huge heart'.

Stephen Stewart, 34, from Callander, Stirling, died at the scene of the collision involving his Mitsubishi L200 on the westbound M8, near Livingston, West Lothian, at around 1.15am on Saturday.

In a statement issued through Police Scotland, Mr Stewart’s family said: “Steve was a kind, caring and loving man with a huge heart and was always there for his friends and family when they needed him.”

He added: “He will be sorely missed and we ask for peace to grieve at this very difficult time.”

The Edinburgh-Glasgow motorway was closed for around five hours while officers investigated the scene.

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses and asked anyone who was travelling on the M8 at around 1:15am on Saturday to contact them on 101.
